Stop Using ACC Like a DROPBOX
Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) is one of the most powerful tools in the AEC industry, yet many only use it as a place to upload drawings. We’ve seen projects with 10 x versions of the same documents, drawings or models floating around across different folders. After applying ISO 19650 rules in ACC, teams instantly cut down wasted search time and avoided costly rework.
If you’re treating ACC like Dropbox with nicer branding, you’re missing out on structure, security, control and ISO 19650 compliance all of which save time, reduce risk and improve collaboration!
ACC is Built for Structure - Not Just Storage
Most projects start with good intentions, then quickly become a mess:
Confusing folder names
No naming consistency
Files uploaded without version control
Everyone accessing everything
ACC was designed to prevent this, if of course set up correctly…
ISO 19650: The Structure You Should Be Using
One of the easiest ways to bring order to your project is to follow the ISO 19650 folder structure, which includes:
00_WIP
– Work in Progress01_Shared
– Shared but not yet approved02_Published
– For construction/use & Approved by the Client03_Archive
– Final record
Inside each, folders by discipline (e.g., Architecture, MEP) create even more clarity.
With this in place, your team knows exactly where to upload, search and review the information.
Naming Conventions That Actually Work
ISO 19650 naming conventions aren’t bureaucratic, they’re practical.
They ensure that every file includes key information: author, purpose, status, date, etc.
ACC lets you enforce these conventions using file name templates, preventing incorrect uploads and saving you hours of cleanup later.
But Here's the Catch...
ACC won’t do any of this out of the box.
You have to configure it properly and that’s where most teams get stuck.
They use ACC like a dropbox because:
❌They don’t know where to start
❌They’re unsure how to apply ISO 19650 standards
❌They’re too far into the project to “go back”
Want to Avoid the Common Mistakes?
We work with project teams, asset owners & contractors to build ISO 19650 compliant ACC templates, set up naming rules and structure folders in a way that’s practical, repeatable and clean from day one and then reusable for all future projects.
If you’re using ACC and still feel disorganised 👉 it’s not you, it’s your setup.
